Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard—the tiers and what bumps you between them.
Pricing divides by rate class. Labels vary; structure doesn't. Tiers run Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best in some shops), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then ratings for riskier profiles. Smokers get a parallel rack, more expensive.
What underwriters look at
BMI, BP, cholesterol, family disease (before 60), driving record, meds, work/hobbies, tobacco. Best class wants near-perfect marks on all fronts. Preferred gives some slack. Standard tiers tolerate managed conditions (like hypertension pills).
How to use the quote tool
Health prompt: shoot straight. Excellent → Preferred Plus, Very good → Preferred, Good → Standard Plus, Average → Standard. Quotes reflect that tier; carrier locks in the final one post-underwriting. On the fence? Try two tiers and compare. Lying won't cut your real premium—only makes the estimate useless.
Susman pinpoints insurers whose underwriting leans your way—often beats lowest advertised rate.
